A woman in Prayagraj has filed a police complaint accusing her husband and five members of his family of forcing her to take medicines that caused an abortion after they allegedly learned that she was carrying a female foetus. She also says she was subjected to repeated domestic violence.

According to her complaint, her family spent nearly sixty lakh rupees on the wedding. Despite this, her in laws allegedly began demanding an additional two lakh rupees as dowry. When her parents could not provide the amount, she claims the harassment intensified. She has stated that she faced both physical and mental cruelty.

The woman says that a prenatal examination was conducted without her consent. After this examination, her husband and his relatives allegedly gave her medicines that ended the pregnancy. She further says that repeated abuse forced her to return to her parents home.

Police have registered a First Information Report against her husband and five other relatives. An investigation has begun and officials are gathering evidence and statements from everyone involved.

Authorities have not yet released additional details and the accused have not given any public response.
